About This Print:
As part of a group exhibition, artists had to adapt assigned Tretchikoff paintings into their own style.
Ingrid Nuss was given ‘Lady of Sumatra’, which is of a woman dressed in traditional Sumatran attire, with rich colours of gold and red in a setting with exotic plants and radiant rays of sun in the sky.
In the adapted version the lady is transformed into a ‘Rooikat’ (Caracal), which is found in the artist’s surroundings. The pointed headdress inspired the cat with pointy ears and enchanting eyes.
The same feeling of richness in the clothing and energy in the background alludes to the wealth and power of this female and her importance. But now she is a goddess of a different tribe.
