This painting was done for ‘Verge’, a group exhibition held in Knysna to aid the awareness of endangered species in South Africa.
The Cheetah is on the IUCN red list as one of the rapidly declining species as a result of land-loss due to the fragmentation of farmland and loss of natural habitat.
This painting shows a cheetah, slowly dissipating in the wind, with park-spectators moving towards a sighting in the fields below. Because of the rapid increase in park attendance, and human activity at sightings, it has affected the population decrease within this species.
The stylized clouds above show an aerial view of farmland as geometric patterns. The wave patterns in the clouds represent the movement of change over time.
