About this artwork

As part of a group exhibition, artists had to adapt assigned Tretchikoff paintings into their own style. Ingrid Nuss was given ‘Lady with Lotus’, which is of a beautiful dark Asian woman holding a lotus flower. She decided to transform her into a dark leopard woman, as leopards are indigenous to her area, and instead of a lotus flower, she holds a king protea, which is South Africa’s national flower. Along with the aspects that she changed, she kept the textured background the same, as well as the blue shirt and her hair, so that there was still enough reference to the original image. This painting is about the exotic beauty of the female, her serenity and allure.
