About this artwork
The tiger frequently appears in the artist’s work as a spirit guardian, symbolising strength, composure, and inner calm. Here, its relaxed presence contrasts with a vast broken window opening into space.
Inner conflict is part of the human experience, and the artist hints at ways she restores balance. Surfing is one of them. The boards depicted here are ones she has used to reconnect with nature through the energy of the ocean.
The broken window also opens toward Mars. As conversations grow around inhabiting other planets, this image reminds us that rather than seeking escape, we must address the imbalances within our own home, Earth.
Another way to perceive this broken window in a greater context is that it opens up to planet Mars. With the advancements in technology and space travel, there has been much talk about using Mars as a habitable planet, but this comes with neglect to our own. Although we might use it as reassurance, we need to rather address the relevant issues disrupting the balance within our immediate home, Earth.
